Hi Everyone and welcome to the Climb 4 Kids .... Kilimanjaro blog.
On Thursday, 26th August 2010 myself and 13 other very special people are leaving Australia bound for Tanzania in Africa to attempt to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in an effort to raise some much needed funds and lots of awareness for the kids and families of Camp Quality.
Mt. Kilimanjaro is the world's highest free standing, snow-covered equatorial mountain.
Camp Quality receives no Government funding and so the Trekkers are endeavouring to raise $80,000.00.
Of course there are lots of "easier" ways of raising money but the Trekkers really wanted to do something different that would encourage people to stop and think. As Volunteers and Friends of Camp Quality they see first hand how brave our special kids are and how they look every challenge they are faced with straight in the eye and keep pushing on. So, when I was approached by one of our Camp Quality mums who wanted to do something in memory of her son who had recently passed away, and to raise awareness for for what Camp Quality does, the idea of Climb 4 Kids ... Kilimanjaro eventuated.
These Trekkers are a powerful team of dedicated and caring people ready to help us achieve our goal. All are completely committed to this wonderful cause and all are each paying their own way to Africa.
They have spent months training and fundraising and now their time has come.
Please log into our blog each day and follow our journey as we tackle the big challenge ahead of us.
So, until "D Day" on the 26th,
Bye for now
